We are Water earns Colorado Water Education Exemplar badge
CEEE We are Water project has been awarded the Colorado Water Education Exemplar badge in recognition of its outstanding, community-centered approach to environmental education. Reviewers praised the program’s strong alignment with the Guidelines for Excellence in Environmental Education, highlighting its culturally responsive design, multilingual resources, and meaningful integration of Indigenous, local, and scientific perspectives on water in the Four Corners Region.
Originally traveling to nine rural libraries across the Four Corners between 2022 and 2024, the exhibit now resides at The Powerhouse Science Center in Durango. The project also partnered with communities in Alamosa and on the Hopi Reservation to co-create exhibits that reflect local water stories and perspectives. Through interactive exhibits, community events, STEAM activities, and resources available in English, Spanish, and Navajo, We are Water has helped connect learners of all ages with the cultural, environmental, and societal importance of water. The program was recognized for its inclusive design, strong community partnerships, and robust evaluation practices, serving as a model for engaging communities in conversations and actions that support water resilience.
