Can you follow Bagley Creek from Bagley Lake all the way to the Nooksack River on the map?
Mt. Shuksan is not a volcano like Mt. Baker is. It is mostly composed of greenschist, which is a type of metamorphic rock. Its beauty makes it one of the most photographed peaks in the world!
Mt. Shuksan has many prominent glaciers on it, including:
• Upper Curtis Glacier
• Lower Curtis Glacier
• White Salmon Glacier
• Hanging Glacier
Snow algae are single celled organisms that grow in snowy environments. They have red, pink or orange pigments that stand out against the white snow. Their photosynthetic pigments absorb solar radiation, increasing energy transfer to the snowpack, causing it to melt faster.
