Katya Schloesser and HEART Force Drought Game Featured in Article by Local Radio Station
With a record-low amount of snow and precipitation this winter in Colorado, drought is high on residents' minds. The snowpack is at half the amount it should be, and there are concerns that these conditions may lead to dangerous fire conditions in the upcoming summer and fall months.
With this in mind, CEEE's very own Katya Schloesser and the team behind HEART Force developed the interactive HEART Force Drought Game, where students work in groups to solve community challenges that arise during the course of an extreme drought event by using available individual and community resources. If you are interested in implementing this game in your classroom, find all the necessary materials for free here.
This incredible work was featured in an article by KVNF Community Radio, which has served the western slope of Colorado since 1979 with national and local news. Katya was interviewed and spoke on her experiences implementing this game into the curriculum with North Fork High School teacher Mike Munoz and his students.
Last week, students, along with community members, met to play the Drought Game together. While students had been playing the game in their classroom for a few weeks, this game allowed the community to examine the pressing issues and problem-solve together.
