HEART Force publication featured as "Article of the Month" in Journal of Geoscience Education

Each month, the editorial staff of the Journal of Geoscience Education (JGE) selects a paper to be free to access and highlights it as the "Article of the month." For July 2025, they selected " Place and community engagement in a youth natural hazards and community resilience education program " by Megan K. Littrell, Kathryn J. Boyd, Katya Schloesser, Alicia Christensen, Anne U. Gold, and Irfanul Alam, and published online on 24 April 2025.

The article highlights the Hazard Education, Awareness, and Resilience Task Force (HEART Force) program includes place-based formal education curriculum, classroom activities, and community-based activities. The program’s design was guided by place-based and sociocultural learning frameworks to support rural middle and high school students’ understanding of natural hazards and community resilience and to empower students to engage in resilience efforts in their communities.
