Dr. Rosimar Rios-Berrios works in the Mesoscale & Microscale Meteorology Lab at UCAR in Boulder. Her research broadly focuses on tropical cyclones, tropical convection, and numerical weather prediction. She received her PhD in atmospheric sciences from the University at Albany, SUNY and her BSc in Theoretical Physics from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez.

Grades 3-5 and 6-9: Using problem-based-learning, students research and report on Hurricane Katrina, using an earth systems science analysis approach with this resource.
Grades 6-9: In this Windows to the Universe lesson students investigate maps and data to learn about the connections between hurricanes and climate including (1) regional climate conditions where hurricanes form and (2) how global climate change may be affecting hurricanes.
Grades 9-12: Using aerial photography of Biloxi, MS after Hurricane Katrina, students assess the impact of extreme weather events and see evidence of the power of extreme weather on the environment.
