CEEE’s Dr. Twila Moon Awarded the 2025 AGU Pavel S. Molchanov Climate Communications Prize

The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) Center for Education, Engagement, and Evaluation (CEEE) is proud to celebrate Dr. Twila Moon, recipient of the 2025 AGU Pavel S. Molchanov Climate Communications Prize. This prestigious award honors Dr. Moon’s outstanding contributions to advancing climate literacy and effectively communicating the science and urgency of climate change.
Presented annually by the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the Pavel S. Molchanov Climate Communications Prize recognizes a scientist who excels at making climate science accessible, fostering scientific literacy, and promoting public understanding and respect for science-based values. Honorees demonstrate both excellence in climate research and a significant impact in communicating that work to non-scientists, including the public, educators, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
Dr. Moon serves as Deputy Lead Scientist at the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) within the University of Colorado Boulder’s Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES). Her pioneering research focuses on the Greenland Ice Sheet and Arctic systems science, deepening our understanding of ice dynamics and climate impacts in polar regions.
In 2025, Dr. Moon also became the first Climate Science Engagement Lead at the CIRES Center for Education, Engagement, and Evaluation (CEEE), where she helps bridge the gap between scientific research and real-world action—connecting climate insights across sectors such as business, policy, finance, philanthropy, and media.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Twila Moon for this remarkable achievement and thank her for her continued leadership in discovery science, geoscience education research, and her invaluable contributions to CEEE projects including QGreenland, PolarPASS, and NNA-CO.
