Rick Saltus's current primary focus is on new methods to deliver trustable magnetic anomaly information for use in alternative navigation (i.e., navigation in the absence of GPS). He is a member of the joint State Department/NOAA/USGS effort to map and describe the extent of the United States Extended Continental Shelf according to the definitions in the United Nations’ Law of the Sea, Article 76. His role included scientific leadership for the Arctic and Atlantic regional documentation.
