Wildfire Resilience in the Gunnison Valley

Wildfire Resilience in the Gunnison Valley

CEEE is partnering with the Western Colorado University Summer Teacher Institute to offer the Wildfire Resilience in the Gunnison Valley course, a three-day workshop on wildfire resilience education. This course will focus on helping teachers develop project-based learning units that are centered around wildfire resilience within their communities.

Educators will engage in field trips, presentations, and discussions with local emergency managers, fire mitigation specialists, scientists, and community partners to explore wildfire resilience planning in Gunnison County. Additionally, there will be a refresher on the HEART Force wildfire curriculum.

The workshop will be led by Katya Schloesser and HEART Force Fellow Krystal Brown, a Gunnison High School science teacher. Graduate-level credit will be offered through Western Colorado University’s Teacher Institute.
